Blended Online Learning

I just watched this 20 minute presentation, REMIX TEACHING THROUGH BLENDED ONLINE LEARNING, at the 2012 K12 ONLINE CONFERENCE.  The presenter, Janine Campbell, does an outstanding job of breaking down the WHY, and HOW, and the WHERE of blended learning.

She uses backward design . . . WHY GO BLENDED?  IT STARTS WITH “WHAT DO WE WANT STUDENTS TO LEARN?”

  • ·         CONTENT – in her case, it is art.  You can apply her techniques to any subject area.
  • ·         21st CENTURY SKILLS – keyboarding, scanning, editing, online discussing, collaborating, imaging  . . . the list goes on.
  • ·         ESSENTIAL LIFE SKILLS – mainly critical thinking and digital citizenship

Her learning management system is Moodle, which some of our WV counties have – but most do not.  You can adapt her ideas to Edmodo, Schoology, Collaborize Classroom, etc.

USE THIS PRESENTATION!!!  Because all the K12 Online Conference sessions are licensed as CREATIVE COMMONS SHARE ALIKE, you are free to use this presentation as you see fit.  I would recommend asking for a half hour at your next faculty meeting and showing it as is. Encourage teachers to create cross-curricular units together!
